007 [video]

[Harry's known for his serious disposition, but today, he's looking as somber as ever. Certainly more somber than anyone here has seen him.

He's not sad, though. He might look like he's lost some sleep, but he hasn't been crying. Here's the thing about Harry and grief: he either accepts it outright, or he doesn't. Part of him always knew he'd lose Coop, one way or the other — one of them would leave this place to go back home, and that would be it. Same with Albert and Gordon. Same for everyone, even the people he doesn't know from his own world. That's the nature of this place. The nature of all places, when he thinks about it.

Everyone leaves, eventually. In some way or another.

Since part of him anticipated this, he's accepted it. Sure, it still stings, and yes, he's half-terrified by the thought of what Coop has gone back home to, but he keeps telling himself that it will be okay. He's at the point where he almost believes it.

Holmes the Noctowl is seated next to him out in the dark yard when the transmission begins, red eyes distractedly following something out in the distance. He doesn't seem to mind the hand buried in the feathers of his back, which is good, because Harry's not letting go anytime soon.

When he speaks, his voice is a little gravelly.]

Hi, everyone.

I'm sure you all know by now, but if not: Special Agent Dale Cooper has gone back home.

[He pauses, searching for the right words.

And finds nothing.

The transmission ends.]

Sorry, sorry. Didn't know you were such a big fan.

[His voice is actually a little sincere. Harry's a decent sort and he wasn't aiming to piss him off.]

I've had a bad run-in with one of them charging in and trying to take over. Never met your guy, though.

Must not be.

[Blake's pretty convinced. You can trust a cop's judgment of people.]

Yeah, doesn't sound like the one I worked with at all.

It's a happy ending for him. He got to go home.

[That catches Blake's interest] Yeah? What kind?

If he's that good, maybe he'll have it done before you get back.

My last case just finished. Got ugly. [he keeps his voice casual, but it takes some effort] Not a lot to go back to.

[Worried he'll take all the credit?]

Small town, right? Those always have something ugly waiting. The nicer they look, the worse it is underneath.

[Come to think of it, that's the rule for most things.]

Let me take a guess. Murder, drugs, backstabbing...

[Your standard shit.]

[Blake nods, forgetting he can't see it]

I think I get the idea.

Cant be stranger than anything I've run into.

I've spent the past couple decades in Philadelphia dealing with the kind of people who's have to take a correspondence course to qualify as dregs, and now I've been here for a while. My threshhold for weird shit is pretty high.
