Mar. 31st, 2013 03:06 pmIt seems almost everyone is pretty excited about the upcoming prom, and I count myself among that number. It'll be nice to have so many of us in the same place.
But speaking from my experience as the sheriff of a town where the high school prom was a yearly thing — and the most important event of the year according to most of the students there — I've got to say that I'm a little concerned about the issue of security. I'm sure the gym leaders will do their best, but if literally everyone is invited... the numbers don't really balance out.
Since this is an event for all ages, I trust that plenty of adults will be going. I think those of us who are willing (and responsible) should consider becoming unofficial chaperones. There's a good chance the whole thing will go down without a hitch, but you know the saying — better safe than sorry.
